Reading these stories and seeing the pictures is so sad. I have many fond memories of riding the S.I. ferries in NYC (probably my favorite thing to do when I get to visit). It is the funnest free thing to do there. Lots and lots of folks ride it to commute between S.I. and Manhattan, kids going to school, sometimes there’s musicians on board playing for tips (I even busted out my harmonica once, but was a little self-conscious so I played on the side decks as I watched the Statue of Liberty pass by.)

Those ferries are so big too. They make the ferries in Texas (between Galveston and the Bolivar Peninsula) look tiny.

What a tragedy… NYC has suffered through so much.
