MSNBC: Confession allowed in alleged plot to kill Bush — Federal judge rules prosecutors can use statement despite torture claim

. . . Abu Ali was arrested in June 2003 while taking final exams at the Islamic University of Medina. He said he was tortured the next day after he refused many times to speak with interrogators.

Abu Ali also confessed to FBI agents in September, but prosecutors have acknowledged that confession is invalid because they disregarded Abu Ali’s request for an attorney. . .

Shame, shame on U.S. District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee for failing to defend our most basic of rights. US citizens (or for that matter anybody) deserve better treatment than this. If this trial moves forward based on this kind of evidence, it is an embarassment of our nation and its so-called “justice” system.
