OColly.com/AP: President to address OSU graduates
I heard this from my own unnamed sources yesterday but was sworn to secrecy. Anyway though now that this is public info, here it is.
I’m not sure what the OSU administration was thinking but I am looking forwarding to see Bush again in the flesh (I’ve met him on two prior occasions when I lived in Texas and he was only a Governor), as both my brother and his wife are among the graduates. I obviously disagree with Bush and his neo-facist policies, but nevertheless it is always interesting to see a public figure in person.
Also on a sidenote, I’ve also heard from the grapevine that there will be a lively response to Bush’s visit from the activist community (thank God).
Perhaps he will attempt to speak on the issue of tribal sovreignty.
Truly he will attempt to speak.
I love President Bush!!!! He is so sexy!
I think its rude for them to plan a “lively response.” A commencement speaker comes to honor graduates of a particular university. What better honor to have someone in the office of president of the United States? He is not here to give a campaign speech, a pro-Republican speech, a pro-Iraq war speech. It’s a commencement address, and Oklahoma is fortunate to have someone in such an honorable office present at one of our universities. I know this isn’t coming from a neutral party, but I can honestly tell you I’d feel the same if Clinton had given a commencement during his presidency. Activists have plenty of other opportunities to do their thing. I wonder how they’d like to have protestors across the street at from their college graduation? Just the perspective of an OSU grad.
I don’t know what the lively response will be, so I don’t know if it will be rude or not. But protest in and of itself I don’t think is rude.
My hope is that the protests would be respectful to George the the human being. I disagree with many on the left in being hateful to him (just I disagree with those on the right who were so hateful to Clinton). I think one can protest his role as President (which deserves no respect. No human being should have as much power as American Presidents do today. I think the office of the presidency is rotten to the core and should be abolished or at least radically stripped of its power. The Presidency represents tyranny and unrestrained agression in my yes) but not be hateful to George the human being.
But as to the feelings of the graduates and whatnot, OSU should have thought of that before they invited such an incredibly polarizing figure to speak.
Our ‘Protest Rock’ band is looking for a nice big event to help raise the noise factor and get things rockin’. It would be very nice if someone could post info on the protests being staged, and if there are any big events planned in conjunction to this. We’re only about an hour away and definitely want to take some action.
Matt, maybe you ought to post your pic with you and the prez! JB

I guess this makes me a part of the “activist community”?
