CNN: Generic drugs getting cheaper at Wal-Mart — No. 1 retailer launches program selling nearly 300 common medicines for as low as $4.

I’m not one to normally praise Wal-mart, but I do think this is a very good move (and one that is long overdue). For poor folks, it will be great for them to get their medicine at or near cost, and of course for Wal-mart they will make more money because folks will end up spending money on stuff when they pick up their prescriptions.

The only negative is that it looks like Wal-mart is using this to put the squeeze on smaller drug store chains, but really I think the profit margins on prescription drugs has been too high across the board.
