Mennonite Weekly Review (the top story includes links to some of the national media coverage, and there will probably be a MWR story up very soon.)
All of the folks at my church have really been hit hard by this story, partly because we share a common spiritual background with the Amish (the Mennonites and Amish both have their roots in the Anabaptist movement, and still work together in peace and justice work through Mennonite Central Committee), but also because Moses & Sadie Mast (the pastoral team of our church) both grew up Amish.
We are a pretty small group, so one of our members called everyone last night to ask us all as a group to pray at 8 p.m. for the situation, so I did so with a friend I was hanging out with last night, but really I had such a hard time knowing what to pray and how to pray. It just seems so irresolvable to fathom why the world is the way it is, and why God seems to be so absent at times like this (or at least feels like he is absent).
I still don’t know how to pray about this, except to ask God to be present with that community and to be present with the shooter’s wife and family.
